カップを切る位置のルールについて
いろいろ調べてみたのですがはっきりしません。
少なくともゴルフ規則には載っていないようです。
 
聞いたことのある話では
 
グリーンの縁から1ピン以内には切らない
周囲1ヤードに強い傾斜のない所に
というものはあるそうです。

これはその理由が正直よくわかりません。
 
砲台グリーンでの寄せがすごく難しくなる
ということはありそうですが。

これはすごくよくわかります。
ボールは、「徐々に減速し、やがて止まる」
というのが原則です。
 
傾斜が急で加速するというケースもあります。
 
でも、カップ30㎝手前から加速し、カップを
弾いて5メートル下まで転がるというケースと
なればゴルフにはなりません。
 
カップを1メートル越えてから加速し、池ポチャ
というのとは違います。
 
今日お邪魔したあるコースのあるグリーンは
次のような状態でした。
 
カップの半径30㎝以内の所に
玉を置いても転がりだしてしまうポイント
がいくつもある。
 
ピン横20㎝に寄って、寄せワンのパーと思ったら、
止まったと思った玉が動き出し、砲台下まで
転がってしまう。
 
もう一度乗せ、5メートルのパットを打って
なんとかピンの10㎝横に止めたと思ったら
動き出してまた砲台下。
 
再び寄せてカップ下1.5mから打った玉がショート。
カップのふちで止まると思ったら逆戻りし、
2メートル下まで。
 
結局、パーだと思ったホールで10点。
4on6パットというのか、それとも5on5パット
と言うんでしょうか？
 
実はこういうケースが当コースでもあり、
昨年の春先にカート5台の待ちという事態が
発生しました。
 
スピーディに回って欲しいという願いを
コース側自身が遮っているケースです。
 
そのため、社内会議でそのケースを説明し、
傾斜の強い所にはカップを切らない
ということを再確認しています。
 
まあ、今日のスコアが予感通りにならなかったのは
上記のホールだけが理由ではありませんが。

Are there any rules for cup position?
I’ve looked into the rules for where to cut the cup,
but it’s not clear.
At least it doesn’t seem to be listed in the Rules of Golf.
 
Some of the rules I’ve heard include:
“Don’t cut the cup within one pin of the edge of the green”
“Cut the cup in a place that has no steep slopes within one yard of it.”
 
“Don’t cut the cup within one pin of the edge of the green”
This is honestly not clear to me why.
 
It seems likely that approach shots on elevated greens would be extremely difficult if the cup was cut very close to the green edge.

This is very easy to understand.
The principle is that the ball “gradually slows down and eventually stops.”
 
In some cases, the slope is too steep and the ball accelerates.
 
But if the ball accelerates 30cm before the cup, bounces off the pin, and rolls 5m down, it’s not golf.
 
This is not the case when the ball accelerates after going over 1 meter from the cup and then falls into the pond.
 
The greens on one of the courses I visited today were in the following condition:
 
There are several points where a ball will start rolling even if placed within a 30cm radius of the cup.
 
I hit the ball 20cm from the pin and thought I had made par,
but the ball that I thought had stopped started moving and rolled all the way to the bottom of the elevated green.
 
I got it onto the green again, took a 5-meter putt and managed to land it 10cm to the side of the pin,
but it started moving and went under the green again.
 
I hit the ball onto the green again from 1.5m below the cup, but it went short.
I thought it would stop at the edge of the cup, but it went back down and fell 2m below the green.
 
In the end, I ended up with a score of 10 on a hole I thought was par.
Should I call it 4-on-6 putts or 5-on-5 putts?
 
In fact, this same situation occurred at our course, with five carts waiting in line early last spring.
 
This is a case where the course itself is preventing players from playing their rounds quickly.
 
Therefore, we explained this case at an internal meeting and reaffirmed that we should not cut the cups on steep slopes.
 
Well, the above holes weren’t the only reason why my score today didn’t go as expected.
