ゴルフの恐ろしさⅡ：人間性の暴露　The horror of golf II: His humanity revealed
 
と過去二度に渡ってゴルフの恐ろしさを
書かせていただきました。
 
多くの人にとっては「まあねえ。」
という内容だったとは思いますが、
今回の話は本当に恐ろしいですよ。
 
少し前にある男子プロがスコア改ざんをし、
10年間の出場停止となりました。
 
覚えていらっしゃる方も多いとは思いますが、
その理由まで憶えていらっしゃる方は
少ないのではないでしょうか？
 
「悪いことをしたから」
「スポーツマンシップに則っていなかったから」
てなことではないですよ。
まあ、近いですけど。
 
ゴルフ規則第1章の
「ゴルフの精神」への重大な違反行為
がその理由です。
 
その「ゴルフの精神」を
全文、ここに書いてみます。
 
ゴルフはほとんどの場合
レフェリーの立ち会いなしに行われる。
 
確かにそうです。
自分自身が最大のレフェリーです。
 
また、ゴルフゲームは、
プレーヤーの一人ひとりが
他のプレーヤーに対しても心くばりをし、
 
ゴルフ規則を守ってプレーするという
その誠実さに頼っている。
 
個人の「誠実さに頼っている」だけだから、
危ういと言えば危ういですよね。
 
プレーヤーはみな、
どのように競い合っているときでも
そのようなことに関係なく、
 
礼儀正しさとスポーツマンシップを常に示しながら
洗練されたマナーで立ちふるまうべきである。
 
身の引き締まる部分だと思います。
 
これこそが正に、
ゴルフの精神なのである。
 
ゴルフだけでなく、
人間としての在り方の話ですよね。
 
冷や汗を流された方、
目が泳いだ方、
過去がフラッシュバックされた方、
いらっしゃいますよねえ？
 
プロではありませんから、
出場停止とかそういうペナルティはありませんが、
 
メンバーさんであれば
「ゴルフの精神」への重大な違反行為と判断されれば、
除名を宣告されても多分文句は言えません。
（まあまずないでしょうけど。）
 
ビジターの方であっても、
そのゴルフ場からの退場を宣告されても
文句は言えないでしょう。
 
そのため、ご自身のためにお振り返りください。
「ゴルフの精神」を順守してますか？
他のプレーヤーに対しても心くばりをしてますか？
 
 
私も多々反省せねばなりませんが、
でも、このクリスマスの日に
「本当にゴルフは素敵なスポーツだなあ。」と
改めて思いました。
 
よく痛めつけられますけど。

As mentioned above, I have written twice about the horrors of golf.
 
For many people, this may seem like a “yeah, yeah,”
but what I’m going to tell you today is truly frightening.
 
A while ago, a male pro golfer falsified his scores
and was banned for 10 years.
 
I’m sure many of you remember it, but few of you know why.
 
It’s not like “he did something bad” or “he wasn’t playing sportsmanlike.
” Well, it’s close.
 
The reason was a serious breach of Part 1 of the Rules of Golf, “The Spirit of Golf.”

Most golf games are played without a referee.
 
That’s true.
We are our own greatest referees.
 
The game of golf also depends on each player’s consideration for other players and their honesty in playing the game according to the Rules of Golf.
 
It’s all about depending on the honesty of the individual,
so it is dangerous if you want to call it that.
 
All players should behave in a refined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times,
regardless of how they are competing.
 
I think that’s a sobering part.
 
This is truly the spirit of golf.
 
It’s not just about golf,
it’s about being a human being.
 
Those who broke out in a cold sweat,
those who his eyes swam,
those who had flashbacks to the past,
anyone are there, right?
 
We’re not professionals,
so there are no penalties like suspensions,
 
If you are a course member and your actions are deemed to be a serious violation of the “spirit of golf,” you probably cannot complain if you are expelled.
 
Even if you are a visitor,
you cannot complain if you are asked to leave the golf course.
 
So please reflect for a while about yourself.
Do you adhere to the “spirit of golf”?
Are you considerate of other players?
 
I have a lot to reflect on, but on this Christmas day,
I once again realized that golf is a wonderful sport.
 
My heart is often hurt though.
