と過去３度に渡ってゴルフの恐ろしさを
書かせていただきました。
今回は、ゴルフのゲームとしての構成面からです。
 
失敗は青天井なのに成功は－1のみ
OBを打った、3パットした・・・・
ぼやぼやしていますと、スコアはあっという間に
トリを超えてどこまでもとなってしまいます。
 
二桁叩きなどした時は、
もう帰りたくなる人もいるでしょう。
 
気を取り直そうにも、
仮に＋4の次にバーディが取れたとしても
差し引き、2ホールで＋3という結果が残ります。
 
バーディが取れたとしてもと書きましたが、
片手ハンディクラスでもないと、
バーディはそう簡単には取れません。
 
パー、ボギーを積み重ねていくのが精一杯です。
 
結果、＋4とか＋5を一度でも叩いてしまうと、
なかなか取り戻せませんし、
取り戻そうとして無理をし、
また新たな＋3、＋4を生みかねません。
 
そこが本当に恐ろしいです。
 
だったらイーグルをポンポンと出せばいい？
イーグルは出たら大騒ぎになります。
基本的には、TV中継で見るだけの幻の動物です。
ルールとして存在だけは知っていますけど。
 
一方で、＋4、＋5をそうは出さない方でも、
3on3パット・ダボ、次も3on3パット・ダボ、
そしてその次もという経験をされることは、
多々、おありでしょう。
 
それも、2ｍほどからの3パット地獄とか。
 
それだけで、スコアはあっという間に積み上がり、
バーディがなかなか取れない身の上としては
もうその日はお手上げになってしまいます。
 
ゴルフは罰が多いくせに、
ご褒美が少ないんですよねえ。
 
だからこそ、次こそはと止められないですし、
ベストスコアが見えてくる時の
緊張感もたまらないのですが。

I wrote “even if you get a birdie,” but unless you’re a one-handed handicapper, it’s not that easy to get a birdie.
 
All we can do is keep making pars and bogeys.
 
As a result, once we hit a +4 or +5,
it’s hard to get it back,
and if we try too hard to get it back,
we may end up creating a new +3 or +4.
 
That’s what’s really scary.
 
It will solve if you get eagles one after the other？
When one can get eagle, it causes quite a fuss.
It’s basically a mythical animal that we only see on live TV.
I know it exists as a rule, though.
 
On the other hand, even if you don’t often get +4 or +5,
you may often experience 3-on-3 putt, double bogey,
then again 3-on-3 putt, double bogey,
and you may experience even more.
 
It was a three-putt hell from about 2 meters.
 
That alone made our scores add up quickly,
and with us struggling to get birdies,
we were giving up for the day.
 
Golf has a lot of punishment but few rewards.

and the tension when we can see our best score is incredible.
