この時期にこそ、このお話を。
 
雪が降って積もり、その状況によってクローズ
とするのか、営業とするのかは、お客様にとって
もコースにとっても重大な決定事項となります。
 
そのため、特に冬は天気予報に注意をし、
雪の可能性のある日は支配人を筆頭に
多くの職員が早朝出勤します。
 
予報確認と現地視察を支配人が繰り返す中、
お客様は続々とコースにやって参ります。
 
そして、
 
今日、やれる？クローズ？
 
ただ今、支配人が確認中でございますので、
中でコーヒーでもお飲みになりながら
しばらくお待ちください。
 
という会話が繰り返されます。
 
その間にも、電話がじゃんじゃん鳴り響き、
上記と同じ質問を職員が何度も受け、
何度も同じ回答を繰り返すことになります。
 
でも、私も入社して驚いたのですが、
当コースの場合、こういうケースの
コーヒーは無料なんですよね。
 
せっかくお越し頂いて、寒い中、
イライラされながら待たれるのだから
という理由で。
 
手前味噌ではないですが、
たいしたものだと思っています。
 
支配人は支配人でクローズにしたくない
という気持ちを持ちつつも、
 
待ち続けていただいた挙句にクローズ
というのは最悪の判断
 
と考えており、比較的早めに判断が出ることと
なります。
 
クローズとなった場合、残念な顔をされて
続々とお帰りになられるお客様を見送りながら
 
申し訳ありませんでした。
気を付けてお帰り下さい。
 
と挨拶をするのもクローズ時独特の風景です。

当コースではOUTの雪が解けにくく、昨年12月27日
のクローズ時も主としてOUT側に雪が積もり、
やむなくクローズとさせて頂きました。
 
当日の夕方、OUT2番の右側にはまだ雪が残ったため、
除雪作業をしました。
（いつもここが残るんですけど）
 

 
このような道具を軽トラの荷台から吊りおろし、
軽トラで引っ張って除雪作業をしていきます。
 

 
積もりが浅かったため、
このような作業で除雪が出来ましたが、
 
本積もりになってしまうと除雪は効かず、
翌日は、雪がやめばカート道路を主体に
手作業での本格的な雪掻き作業をとなります。
 
これは本当につらい作業で、寒さで
頭も痛くなっちゃうんですよねえ。
 
ですから、心の底から本当に雪は降って
欲しくないと思っています。

A Day at the Golf Course 4: Snowfall
This story is perfect for this season.
 
As snow falls and accumulates, the decision of whether to close or open the course is an important one for both customers and the course.
 
For that reason, we pay close attention to the weather forecast, especially in winter,
and on days when there is a possibility of snow,the manager and many other staff members come to work early in the morning.
 
*The part about “including the manager” is a lie; he always comes to work after 10 o’clock.
 
As staff repeatedly check the forecast and the course conditions, customers continue to arrive on the course.
 
And then,
 
Can we play golf today? Is it closed?
 
Our staff is currently checking, so please wait a while in the clubhouse while enjoying a cup of coffee.
 
This conversation is repeated over and over.
 
Meanwhile, the phone keeps ringing off the hook, and staff are asked the same questions
and have to give the same answers over and over again.
 
However, I was surprised when I joined the company to find that in our course, coffee in these cases is free.
 
The reason is that they have come all the way here and are waiting without knowing what decision will be made.
 
I’m not trying to brag, but I think it’s a great thing.
 
Our staff certainly do not want to close the course.
 
However, we believe that closing the course after making people wait would be the worst decision we could make.
 
As a result, we will make a decision relatively quickly.
 
“We’re sorry. Please be careful on your way home.”
It’s a unique scene when the decision is made to close a course, to see people off with disappointed looks on their faces.
 
At our course, the snow on the OUT course does not melt easily,
and when we closed on December 27th last year, snow had mainly accumulated on the OUT course, so we were forced to close it.
 
That evening, there was still snow left on the right side of the 2nd hole, so we cleared the snow away.
(It always remains there.)
 

 
These tools are hung from the bed of a light truck and pulled by the truck to clear the snow.
 

 
Because the snow was only lightly piled up,we were able to clear the snow this way,
but once the snow had piled up, snow removal was no longer effective,
 
and the next day, once the snow had stopped falling, we had to do serious manual snow shoveling work, mainly on the cart paths.
 
This is really hard work and the cold weather makes my head hurt.
 
So, from the bottom of my heart, I really don’t want it to snow.
