A day at the golf course ⑪: Around the front desk again early in the morning
 
↑Here, I wrote about the struggles of one woman who was left working alone on a crowded holiday shift,
because one person arrived late.
 
Well, April 1st is April Fool’s Day.
 
I had completely forgotten about its existence,
but that day I was scheduled to play a round at the course where I work,
and at 8am I received a call on my cell phone from a woman who was scheduled to work the early shift at the course.
 
Can you come to work right away?
I overslept.
 
I was still looking like I was about to go golfing,
but I ran out of the house without even having time to get changed.
 
I drove along the winding mountain road at a speed that made me feel sick,
and when I arrived at the course, there were two staff members there.
 
None of the work that would normally pile up was there.
 
When I returned from my round feeling like I was in a dream and scoring like I was in a dream,
 
“Mr. Watanabe (not his real name), did you fall for an April Fool’s joke?”
 
the other staff members asked me.

But the front desk staff had finished their work. Hmm?
 
But it’s been a really long time.
I never thought that there would be a place where the custom of April Fools’ Day is still alive and well.
 
Apart from me, all the front desk staff are women, and women have a lot of power,
so I often find myself unable to tell whether what I’m being told is true or has been distorted.

ゴルフ場の一日⑪：再び朝一のフロント
 
↑こちらでは1人の出勤が遅れたため
たった1人きりで混雑する休日業務をすること
となった1人の女性の奮闘を記載しました。
 
さて、4月1日はエイプリルフール。
 
もうその存在も忘れていたんですが、その日は
勤務先でラウンド予定だった私の携帯にコースの
早番予定の女性から朝8時に連絡が。
 
今からすぐに出勤できます？
私、寝坊しちゃいました。
 
ゴルフに向かおうとする姿のまま、
着替える間もなく家を飛び出しました。
 
山道を走っていくのですが、自分自身が気持ち
悪くなるようなスピードでくねった山道を走り抜け、
コースについてみると、ちゃんと二人いる。
 
ダッシュで来た意味ないやんと思いつつ
フロントに行ってみると、受付のラッシュも既に
一旦休息状態。
 
いつもなら溜まっているはずの仕事も皆無。
 
キツネに包まれたような気持ちでラウンドをし、
キツネに包まれたようなスコアを叩いた私が
ラウンドから戻ってくると、
 
渡辺さん（仮名）、エイプリルフールに
引っかかったんですって？
 
と他のスタッフたち。
 
え～っ？エイプリルフール？
いやいや、あれは本当ぽかった。
けど、仕事は片付いていたし。う～ん？
 
でもまあ、本当に久しぶりでした。
まさかまだ、エイプリルフールっていう風習が
生きている場所があったとは。

フロントは女性ばかりで女性の力が非常に強いので、
私など、事実なのかねじ曲げられたのか、何がなん
だかわからないことがよく起きます。
 
このブログも最初に投稿した時の内容を読まれた
