HDCPは8ですが、今年のマンスリー集計では
もっともスコアの悪かったホールです。
 
表向きはいいけど、裏で悪さをする
裏番ホールとでも言うんでしょうか？
 
フェアウエイは概ねまっすぐ、
そして左右は受け壁になっていますので、
よほどでないとOBも出にくいです。
 
では、なぜスコアが悪くなるのか？
諸説あります。
 
曰く、特にグリーン左のバンカーに入れると大変。
曰く、奥が浅いので大きいとOBになる。
曰く、グリーン周りのラフがゲチョゲチョで難しい。
 
どの意見が正しいのでしょうか？
 
実は、グリーンがポテトチップスなんですよね。
 

 
グリーンにONしても、
玉がポテトチップスに埋もれてしまって
どこに乗っているのかわからない。
 
パッティングラインもポテトチップスが
邪魔で邪魔でまっすぐ打てない。
 
海苔はさほど邪魔にならないけど、
結晶の大きな粗塩がラインを変える。
 
そう、そういうホールです。
 
でも、本当にグリーンの難しさに尽きるホールです。
 
写真の通りに、
全体的には右奥から左手前の傾斜ですが、
そこかしこに凹凸があり、
 
傾斜もフックに見えて実はスライスとか、
上りに見えて実は下りとか。
 
4パットの危険性はあるし、
ファーストパットがグリーン外に
ということもままあります。
 
その点でサンベルを象徴するホールと
言えるのかもしれません。

Sanbell IN No. 14: Potato chips green
 
Although it has an HDCP of 8,
this is the hole with the worst average monthly score this year.
 
Could it be said that it’s a sinister hall that acts good on the surface but does bad things behind the scenes?
 
The fairway is generally straight,
and the foothills act as barriers on both sides,
so unless we do something really bad your tee shot will not go out of bounds.
 
So why do scores get worse?
There are many theories.
 
Someone said it’s especially tough if we hit it into the bunker on the left side of the green.
 
Someone said that the back of the green is narrow, so if we hit a big shot it will go out of bounds.
 
Someone said that approach shots are difficult because the rough around the green is thin.
 
So, which opinion is correct?
 
Actually, the green is shaped like potato chips.
 

 
Even when the ball lands on the green,
it’s impossible to know which bumps the ball will hit or where it will stop.
 
The putting line is also so uneven that it’s difficult to hit it straight.
 
Small bumps don’t get in our way that much, but big bumps make a big difference in the way the ball rolls.
 
Yes, that’s the kind of hall it is.
This is a hole where the difficulty of the green really comes into play.
 
As you can see in the picture, the slope is from the back right to the front left,
but there are bumps here and there,
 
The slope may look like a hook but is actually a slice,
or it may look like an uphill slope but is actually a downhill slope.
 
There is a risk of four-putting,
and it’s not uncommon for the first putt to go off the green.
 
In that sense, it may be said to be the hall that symbolizes Sunbell.
